The Chong Daybed serves as a modern version of traditional beauty, inheriting the cultural essence of the Vietnamese bamboo daybed. Chong captivates not only with its blend of modern and classic aesthetics but also with its natural beauty and enduring durability. American oak provides a timeless appeal, offering excellent strength and resistance to pests. The Microfiber leather is intricately woven using traditional techniques, ensuring meticulous craftsmanship and clear, perfect details. The integration of natural materials and skilled artistry is evident not just in its appearance but also in the profound cultural significance and interaction of these elements, creating a piece that is both visually stunning and culturally meaningful.

Design Bridging Modern and Traditional Beauty

Looking back at national history, the bamboo daybed played a crucial role in the daily lives of the Vietnamese. It symbolized a generation where our ancestors gathered to chat and rest after a long day’s work. The bamboo daybed was not just a handcrafted product but also embodied the spirit of mutual support and respect for tradition. Building on the aesthetic beauty of the traditional bamboo daybed, the Chong Daybed presents a modernized version with an updated appearance. With its sturdy construction, the Chong Daybed can comfortably support the weight of 2-3 people, meeting the needs of contemporary life.

Chong DayBed can withstand a large weight of 2-3 people sitting and lying comfortably.

Chong DayBed was designed by Sema designers with a combination of Vietnamese national identity and modern spirit. This is not only a piece of furniture but also carries Vietnamese cultural values in preserving the beauty left by our ancestors over the centuries. Now the bed has been reborn with a new style, suitable for contemporary lifestyle.

Designer Nguyen Phuong Chi shared: “Chong Daybed is inspired by the traditional bamboo bed. It is a modern furniture product, inheriting the cultural and historical quintessence of the Vietnamese bamboo bed. We researched and tested for more than two years to perfect the design, structure, and materials. The design uses modern materials such as: American oak, metal, and Microfiber leather. The product retains the beauty of proportion and multi-purpose value of the old bamboo bed but is more suitable for contemporary life”.

Chõng đã tái sinh với một phong cách mới, phù hợp với lối sống đương đại

Chong is not only a beautiful piece of furniture but also a meaningful work of art connecting the past and the present, between culture and design. It shows pride and important religion for the spiritual values that our ancestors have inherited and maintained through generations.

SEMA Design Studio belongs to SEMA Group – a gathering place for Vietnamese designers who are passionate about furniture design. Born with a different, pioneering idea, the products designed by the group all carry the Vietnamese spirit combined with contemporary, international features. Chong Daybed design was honored to win the Silver Prize in the Best Furniture, Home – Decor Design category of Vmark Vietnam Design Week 2023 and was present at the exhibition: Design Fair VietNam, within the framework of VietNam Design Week.
