Young Designers Outline Their Future Journey with Professional Exchange Activity: “Career Blueprint Design”
Who am I? How do I want to orient my future? These are basic questions, but never old for every young person. For Interior Designers in their early years of studying and working, these questions become more important than ever. Focusing on sharing and exchanging with young individuals studying and working in the Interior industry, the professional exchange session “Career Blueprint Design” took place with the participation of guest experts working in the Interior field – in many different directions: Architect Nguyen Dinh Hoa – Co-founder of LAITA Design Studio, Architect Doan Phuong – General Director, Founder of DPlus Vietnam, Ms. Nguyen Trang Nhung – Head of Learning and Development – AKA Furniture group, Designer Le Do Huyen Trang – Founder of Enlighten Studio – Youtube Vlogger Banh Quy.
Architect Doan Phuong and the story of building an impressive personal and business imageThe guests stood from the position of brothers and sisters who had gone a long way, with very unique perspectives, bringing to the discussion an atmosphere of open and friendly exchange, while providing a lot of information and valuable “implicit truths”.
“Design has never been a world just for men, through the process of working and training in Interior Design, I understand that this is a creative job that is very necessary and suitable for women, and I hope that in the future we can tell the stories of female designers that are worthy of what they have contributed”, Architect Nguyen Dinh Hoa sincerely shared at the professional exchange session.
Ms. Nguyen Trang Nhung – Founder of Enlighten Studio – Youtube Vlogger Banh Quy said: “In the process of interacting with interior brands and customers, I realized that professional salespeople need to introduce to customers the value of each piece of furniture. During that process, I was able to use the knowledge and skills I learned in design school to help customers, from which I found joy in the interior industry”.
Whether from the perspective of a design office founder – building a personal brand for herself and for her business; someone who focuses on researching, designing and producing separate items; someone who operates the commercial sector – buying and selling furniture; or someone who focuses on personal designs and projects; Guest experts all agreed that in order to operate a highly comprehensive industry like Interior Design, the complementary combination of each small industry group to create a large collective is extremely important. Depending on the ability and personal development orientation, among that wide range of choices, young people can “design a career blueprint” that suits them and actively contribute to the big picture.
Receiving the support and direction of the Vietnam Interior Design Association, the Interior Design Student Forum repositioned itself to become the Vietnamese Young Interior Design Community.
After 5 years of active operation, the Interior Design Student Forum realized the need to expand, target a more diverse audience, and at the same time take on greater responsibilities, contributing a broader vision to the young interior design community.
From that goal, the Interior Design Student Forum decided to reposition itself to become the Vietnamese Young Interior Design Community. The new identity of the Young Interior Design Community of Vietnam is built on 2 elements: the 4 letters YIDC stands for Young Interior Design Community – created from the connection between individual points in a large set of points, symbolizing the mission of bridging young designers, universities – businesses and experts in the industry, while also expressing the overall view of the community; The colors of the 4 letters are the original colors of the spectrum with appropriate changes in hue: red, green, blue, …
With these changes, the Young Interior Design Community in the future will maintain the dynamic and enthusiastic spirit of youth, while aiming to contribute solid foundations to the entire Interior community.

Professional exchange activity “Vietnam Furniture Association – Journey of development and international integration”
On the afternoon of May 18, the event series ID.Forum 2024: Vietnam Furniture on the journey of development and international integration marked the first appearance of the Asia-Pacific Furniture Design Association (APSDA), the Thai Furniture Design Association (TIDA), the Singapore Furniture Design Society (SIDS) and the Malaysian Furniture Design Association (MIID), bringing multi-dimensional perspectives on the interior design industry in each culture, suggesting development orientations and international integration for the Vietnamese Interior Design industry.
In his opening speech, Associate Professor, Dr. Architect Vu Hong Cuong – Vice President of the Furniture Association commented: “ID.Forum is a major event of the Association, which will bring multi-dimensional perspectives in the interior field of the Asia-Pacific region, new development orientations for the industry to penetrate deeper into the international market”.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Architect Vu Hong Cuong – Vice President of the Furniture Association delivered the opening speech at the conferenceInternational integration is an inevitable process in society, promoting the country to move quickly on the path of civilization and prosperity. Currently, Vietnam has only stopped at a relatively deep level of integration with a certain position and role in a number of fields. It is easy to see that the overall picture of that integration still lacks the presence of the Vietnamese furniture industry, while the industry itself has a mutual influence on many dimensions of society, and at the same time has been and is having strong development steps, contributing significantly to the common development.
Designer Keat Ong – President of the Asia-Pacific Furniture Association (APSDA) said that the event opens up many opportunities for cooperation between countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of furniture, including the Vietnamese furniture industry. Recently, APSDA has officially issued an international practice certificate, standardizing and upgrading vocational training in general, opening up a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted development path…
Designer Keat Ong shared: “The need for a formal regional organization to support expertise, operations, promote exchanges, discussions and cooperation between countries is extremely necessary”.
Opening the professional exchange section, Architect Le Truong – Chairman of the Vietnam Interior Design Association said that although the Interior industry in Vietnam has been trained for 60 years, it is still not officially recognized as a profession. Interior design students after graduation still do not have an official practice certificate and design fees are still absent from the legal documents of the Ministry of Construction, leading to many shortcomings and difficulties in practicing the profession.
Referring to the story of culture in interior design, Prof. Dr. Architect Hoang Dao Kinh – a cultural expert, who has devoted his whole life to preserving the cultural soul of the nation, shared:
“Interior is a function, coming from the architecture of the building, creating the completeness and beauty that transmits to the seemingly silent mass”. He also raised suggestive questions: “The usefulness and economy, the relationship between the tendency to show off and with the traditional Vietnamese sense; between the scale and anthropological characteristics; between the waste of natural resources and the alarm about visible limitations… These are questions that are more difficult to find answers about the measure of moderation – moderation in use, in enjoyment. This concept has a cultural nature”.
Meanwhile, designer Alan Ong – Representative of the Singapore Interior Design Association emphasized the interrelationship between cultural heritage, education and contemporary design. “Interior design plays an important role in shaping and preserving cultural identity. It is about creating spaces that tell stories, celebrate diversity and preserve cultural roots.”
Vietnam Furniture Association officially becomes a member of the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Association
Within the framework of the event, in order to promote comprehensive development and international integration, Designer Keat Ong – Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Association (APSDA) presented a certificate to Architect Le Truong – Chairman of the Vietnam Furniture Association, announcing that the Vietnam Furniture Association officially became a member of the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Association, thereby establishing a solid foundation for a long-term cooperative relationship between the two units.
With the joining of the Vietnam Furniture Association, the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Association officially increased the number of official members to 15 members. This is a meaningful move not only for the young Vietnam Furniture Association, but with active exchange and discussion activities, these will be strong steps to further enhance cultural pride in interior design throughout the region.
Setting out very clear roadmaps, receiving support from other countries’ Furniture Associations and the Asia – Pacific Interior Design Association, Vietnam Furniture Association aims to standardize and improve the quality of the domestic industry, in the future becoming one of the industries with comprehensive, deep, flexible and effective international integration.
Expectations of international representatives with Vietnam Furniture Association
Bringing an international perspective, designer Korakoth Kunalungkarn – Chairman of Thailand Furniture Association (TIDA) shares the story about the vision and role of Furniture Associations in each country in the development of the industry in each country; the necessity of professional legitimacy in the field of interior design and the ability of these shaping works to impact the development of the entire industry.
Designer Korakoth Kunalungkarn said: “Since its inception, the unit has always oriented its standards and activities towards three main groups: a group of professional experts, a group of young interior designers and a group of students – training and continuously nurturing, developing, establishing an international network of scholars and experts working together to maintain professional interior design standards and practices”.
Concluding the series of presentations, designer Keat Ong – President of the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Association provided an overview of the impact of Interior Design Associations and Associations, while emphasizing the positioning of the unique cultural stature of the Asia-Pacific region.
Accordingly, “The need for a formal regional organization to support expertise, operations, promote exchange, discussion and cooperation between countries are extremely necessary” – Mr. Keat Ong said at the event.
Each speaker is an important piece, sharing very unique perspectives, thereby creating a complete picture of development and international integration of Vietnamese interior design.
The story opened in the discussion brings many multi-dimensional perspectives, from which we can look back and orient the development of individuals/organizations when entering the world of global interior design in a sustainable way.
